Mushroom ID Help Please.
Hi Everybody,
SWIM has spent the last five seasons finding everything but the real deal. But he thinks he's struck gold(tops) now! He would appreciate confirmation from anyone kind enough and experienced.
Things possibly worth noting:
- The smell is farinacious. Smells like brioche dough, slightly sweet and bready.
- The bruising is almost green-blue rather than straight-up blue on the caps. Others viewed and saw blue though. Any thoughts on the (perhaps perceived) green tinge in bruises on mushrooms?
- The stems showed blue-black where it was cut and handled.... less so on the smaller mushrooms.
- The bottom of the stems, left behind, were oozing blue/blue-green goo!
- The smaller mushrooms didn't show much sign of blue bruising, but came out of the same “cake” and I was gentle for the most part.
- Stem was difficult to pinch but scissors worked. Woody stem if that could be a way to describe it?
- The spore prints were all the same colour; chocolate brown with a slight tinge of purple.
- Two spore prints left a beautiful purple dye surrounding them (which didn't show up in the photos) but the others did not.
- I am super paranoid of Gallerina Marginata et al, even after reading everything on, and finding, look-alikes. Any hard and fast rules would be appreciated.
- I lost confidence with the colour of the gills. I started getting Gallerina paranoia. Please refer to the photos.
I think this is so awesome, you all helping with the ID's, keep up the Great Work! Much appreciated.
